When a tooth is extracted it can be possible to place an implant at the time of extraction. It may not be possible in every case, but in this example it saved 3-4 months of healing time. The implant is allowed to heal and integrate into the bone. A small healing cap at the gum level is the only sign that there was an implant placed. With the final crown the patient can clean, floss and chew like normal.
Immediate Implant placement after fracture
Procedure Details
The patient presented with a broken tooth that had a hopeless prognosis. To preserve the teeth on either side an implant was chosen to replace the tooth. The implant was placed at the same time as the extraction. The implant replaces the lost root and helps to preserve bone. A crown was placed over the implant fully restoring function and aesthetics. A bone graft was used to help with healing and stability.
